The Rochester Area Business Ethics Foundation, in partnership with Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce and National HR Association - Rochester affiliate, is pleased to present a program on diversity and inclusion. For many years, employers have been checking the diversity box through recruiting, training, and handbook policies. But many haven't truly focused on building an inclusive culture or understanding how the lack of one has negatively impacted employees. In today's world, diversity and inclusion are no longer a 'nice to have' but a 'must have', and are a foundation of a competitive and sustainable organization. To get to the next level, leaders must instill diversity and inclusion as a core part of their culture and values. The future success of the organization depends on it.  Our panel of experts will discuss diversity and inclusion from a leadership perspective, as well as address how to fill the gaps and promote a deeper understanding of the challenges, and how to overcome them.  Join us and learn how you can help move your company from compliance to excellence!
7:30-8:00am – Networking; Check in
8:00-9:30am – Presentations
9:30-10:00am – Panel questions
Presentation Summaries:
Gerard Rooney, President, St. John Fisher College
Leadership is about empowering people and effective leadership can have a profound impact on creating a work environment where all individuals feel accepted, respected and connected. Rooney will share his observations on evolving leadership demands and challenges related to diversity and inclusion.
James Smith, Director of Development and Community Engagement, YMCA of Greater Rochester
Diversity must be an intentional part of the conversation when discussing recruiting efforts. Without a culture that values inclusion, employee retention will continue to be a challenge. Policies and practices must reflect an organization’s commitment to encourage full participation by all people, regardless of their differences.  Smith will discuss how diversity and inclusion are intertwined and how they can be embedded in policies and practices for organizational success.
Will Wallace, Learning, Leadership, & Diversity Influencer, Braveheart Consultants, and President, ROC ATD
An eye-opening presentation by a group on a mission to create a culture of courage at work will provide diverse perspectives around the importance of having courageous conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, and how it can positively impact employees and the work environment.  Will Wallace and Adrian Hale, Sr. Manager, Workforce/Economic Development & Education Initiatives at Rochester Chamber, will discuss their perspectives and experiences as well.
