The US Department of Labor recently issued a proposed rule that provides guidance on classifying workers and seeks to combat employee misclassification, especially independent contractors. If finalized, the rule will make it more difficult for an individual to be classified as an independent contractor. In addition, contractor status will continue be closely scrutinized during DOL audits.
