In a historic achievement, the collaborative efforts of Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse secured victory in the nationwide competition for a federal Tech Hub designation, recently announced by President Joe Biden, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Congressman Joe Morelle.

Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce played a pivotal role in this win, lending our expertise during an in-depth planning and application process. Our strong relationships with key leaders, including Senator Schumer, Congressman Morelle, and the U.S. Department of Commerce proved instrumental in securing this victory. As Rochester and our Upstate NY partners prepare for the next phase, applying for initial federal funding up to $75 million, the designation marks a significant opportunity for economic growth, workforce development, and infrastructure transformation.

Congressman Morelle was the House of Representatives’ key architect of the legislative package that made these Tech Hubs a reality and was recognized by President Joe Biden for his work on this initiative.
