Join the University of Rochester Department of Psychiatry on August 20th for the final session of their 2025 Summer Brown Bag Series on August 20th at noon. 

Colleen Fogarty, MD, MSc, FAAFP will be presenting "Cultivating a Writing Life: Reflections From a Senior Family Physician" at the Class of '62 Auditorium at noon. Dr. Fogarty will discuss using the creative writing process to better care for yourself, your team, and those you care for.

About the Speaker: 

Colleen Fogarty, MD, MSc, FAAFP is the William Rocktaschel Professor and Chair at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the Chief of Family Medicine at Highland Hospital of Rochester. She practices full spectrum outpatient care for children and adults, with a commitment to serving under-resourced families. Dr. Fogarty's scholarship includes empirical and creative work. Her research includes primary care identification and management of mental health conditions, intimate partner violence, and patient centered communication. Her creative work has been published in numerous journals and she has received creative writing awards from the University of Rochester and the Family Medicine Education Consortium. She popularized the writing and use of 55-word stories in Family Medicine and introduced the 55-word story column for the journal Families, Systems, and Health. She spent a portion of her recent sabbatical further developing her creative writing contributions.
